VBHA History

Public housing was established by the U.S. Housing Act of 1937. The purpose of the act was to provide home for those of low and moderate income and to provide jobs for the unemployed. The Housing Authority of the City of Van Buren, Arkansas (Van Buren Housing Authority of VBHA) was organized on May 18th, 1960, pursuant to the Housing Authority Act of Arkansas.

Current Operation

VBHA currently owns and manages 200 units of public housing (family and designated elderly) in Van Buren, Arkansas. VBHA also manages 40 units of public housing in Ozark, Arkansas.

VBHA is consistent “High Performer”

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has developed a rating system by which to measure the performance of housing authorities across the country. The system, Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS), measures financial condition, physical condition, management operations, and customer satisfaction. VBHA is consistently rated “High Performer”, the highest designation awarded by HUD.
